Audience Development Planning for greenspace in Cumbria

Audience Development Planning at a county wide level! Quite a challenge

In 2006 R4C worked on a fascinating project supporting Friends of the Lake District and Cumbria County Council in producing an audience development plan for the rural green spaces of Cumbria.

The term rural open green space is used in this case to refer to 'a piece of land in or on the edge of a town or village that is important to the local community'.

We worked with the FLD to map the current and potential users of these spaces, their likes and dislikes, needs and wants from the points of view of both residents and visitors alike.

The Audience Development Plan formed part of the planning year for a Heritage Lottery Fund grant and helped secure £1m from HLF for the 'Open Spaces, Green Places' project. This money will fund projects working with communities across Cumbria on natural heritage and cultural heritage schemes.
