Cerys Thomas

Cerys was brought up in North Wales, undertaking her secondary education in Denbighshire.  She has over 30 years experience of working in the the voluntary and community sector, gained in an employed and voluntary capacity.  She has a strong understanding of voluntary and community groups, and community development, combined with wide experience of facilitation and dialogue including substantial community development experience and experience of practical and strategic grant- making. She is fully bilingual in Welsh and English. 

She was previously the national co-ordinator for Community Development Cymru, leading Wales’ largest member led community development organisation. Prior to that, she was Project Manager Wales for the Community Fund overseeing the merger of the New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund. Through earlier work with Shelter Cymru, NACAB and Citizens Advice Bureau, she has a solid understanding of the issues around access to services.

Activities and Interests outside R4C

Cerys is active in the local community where she is a town councillor, a governor and former Chair at the local primary school, and a member of a number of other local organisations.  She is currently working with a small group on the refurbishment of her local Town Hall, which has recently been transferred into community ownership, and is also seeking to raise funds for repairs to her local church bells, where she is a regular ringer.
