Powys Community Led Planning

Powys County Council contracted R4C to support four communities to pilot the Community Led Planning process. Each community has developed a plan that can then be used to inform and support funding applications in the future.  Steering groups comprising residents, councillors, and the private and voluntary sector have been created in Newtown, Presteigne, Builth Wells and Ystradgynlais.

R4C supported each community to consult residents and businesses on a range of topics. Responses demonstrate a real willingness to be involved in planning their futures and tackling new and exciting projects together. The findings have been analysed and all four towns have now produced these plans.

The steering groups developed a number of skills and techniques for engaging and consulting with their communities going into the future. They reviewed the findings thousands of comments and analysed the data. Drawing together the various stakeholders in this way has given shared and clear direction with new partnerships and opportunities identified.

A shared learning session with representatives of the steering groups and Powys County Council helped to draw out the best from these pilot projects to take forward through the next stages as more towns work towards developing their action plans.

R4C has been asked to continue working with the Town Councils and steering groups focusing on economy, tourism and developments of major local importance.
