With over 30 years’ experience in the voluntary & community sector, including leading national organisations in Wales, Cerys has significant experience of supporting the sector to operate in a challenging environment; including support with re-structuring, funding and remaining resilient in times of change. She has also worked for major funders, including lottery funders; bringing a real insight into both funders’ requirements and how to use funding to make a difference.

Cerys’s core competencies are:

  • Strategic and effective engagement based on sound community development principles– tailoring the engagement to the audience for the best results
  • Practical experience of asset transfer- from consultation to the realisation of an Action or Business Plan
  • Organisational change – working with organisations to identify and make the changes that will make a real difference
  • Strong communications at all levels, in Welsh and English, both at grass roots, and strategic level, including reports, presentations and training
  • Understanding grant programmes – working with applicants to develop successful projects and with funders to analyse the effectiveness of their programmes (Lottery, Welsh Government)
  • Monitoring and evaluation – especially of large lottery funded schemes and projects to support recipients in developing their competence in monitoring their activity to improve their impacts.

Career highlights

Cerys has worked as the Operations Manager for Wales for the Big Lottery Fund, where she managed a team of grant officers, and developed new grant progammes.  As Chief Officer of Community Development Cymru, she developed the National Strategic Framework for Community Development in Wales, leading an exercise that engaged over 800 individuals and groups in the process, for Welsh Government

Other stuff

Cerys lives in Mid-Wales where she is a Town Councillor, and chairs a trust which is currently considering the asset transfer of a large listed building to the community.
