South Wales Recreational Visioning

The South Wales Valleys are slowly becoming known, not the coal for which they became famous, but for their special post-industrial green spaces.

R4C have been supporting Mike Haire Associates review the possibilities for three pieces of land owned by the Local Authority in the Sirhowy Valley, along with their wider relationship with adjoining land owned by Natural Resources Wales. This work involved a review of the existing and potential assets and development of an options analysis for the future management, including meetings and interviews with a range of stakeholders as well as various site meetings. The aim was to review the potential for new land management methods; new income streams and business options; potential for increase community involvement and direct benefit; opportunities to satisfy a wider range of Wellbeing services and new recreation and wildlife potential.

The sites have a variety of existing infrastructure from buildings and farms to cycle paths and woodland assets.
