Nature-Friendly Farming

The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation has been involved in environmental funding for a considerable period of time. Their latest funding strategy’ launched in 2000 identified Nature Friendly Farming as a priority with a view to help stimulate the changes necessary to produce food ethically that is better for nature, local economies, and people. In the summer of 2023 R4C   was commissioned to undertake a review of this funding programme determine both its effectiveness and impact.

The review was based on a series of interviews with organisations that had received funding and other stakeholders in the sector, followed by a Findings Validation Workshop with all those involved. The Foundation has welcomed the reviews findings where Esmée could potentially add more value through utilising all the tools at its disposal such as leveraging evidence, insights and the power to convene; continuing to build support for peer-to-to-peer knowledge exchange and supporting the development of a stronger farmer voice and the development of Nature-Friendly Farming business models.
