Evaluating community approaches to heatwave resilience

Dr Kevin Burchell (now a Senior Consultant with R4C) was the Principal Investigator of Urban Heat (at Policy Studies Institute, University of Westminster) and R4C produced an evaluation of the project.

Urban Heat responded to increasing heatwave risk in the UK. Working with local third sector partners in three disadvantaged areas of London, the objective of Urban Heat was to build heatwave/climate/community resilience through community-based approaches and policy engagement with public health and community resilience officers in the three relevant London borough councils (as well as regional and national policy actors). Urban Heat was funded by Joseph Rowntree Foundation and ran from 2015 to 2017.

R4C’s evaluation focused on the series of three workshops that was implemented in each of the three study areas and interviews with the project team and partners, and key local and regional policy actors.
