As an experienced and bilingual (Welsh) Practitioner, Deio’s focus is on delivering projects with the potential to make a positive difference in our communities. Working alongside local people and stakeholders to develop better places for people to live, work and enjoy.
Deio has a MA postgraduate degree in ‘Local and Regional Economic Development’, and together with his diverse professional background, that combines economic development, community regeneration, tourism, conservation, research, planning and policy, this gives him a broad and unique perspective in his work.
Deio’s core competencies are:
Deio gained extensive experience working in diverse roles, supporting & promoting community regeneration and conservation across the public and third sectors. He also spent 2 years researching the support needs of community enterprises as part of the Welsh Government’s Pathfinder project, before taking on a strategic management role managing Anglesey’s Destination Management programme.
In 2019, Deio successfully developed a £1.7m Landscape Partnership scheme on Anglesey, promoting cultural & heritage tourism as a catalyst for local socio-economic development. As a Facilitator for Welsh Government’s Sustainable Management Scheme he has a key role in securing European funding for rural partnerships in Wales.
A first language Welsh speaker, Deio lives in North Wales where he tries to spend as much of his spare time as possible in the great outdoors. A keen amateur sportsman he’s played, coached and managed at both youth and senior level football clubs, and volunteers with the youth sailing charity ‘Challenge Wales’. He took a year out in 2015/16 to compete on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, spending the following year living and working in Australia.
